The museum is named after a local merchant, John Hastie, who bequeathed funds to build a museum for the people of Strathaven. Although no longer housed in its original building overlooking John Hastie Park, a dedicated group of volunteers, united by vision and determination, ensure this museum continues to tell the story of Strathaven to both locals and visitors to the town.
